Highgate Primary is co-located with Blanche Nevile school for Deaf Children.
Children who attend Blanche Nevile are taught by specially trained teachers, but also spend time integrating into the mainstream class at Highgate Primary.
The partnership provides an exemplar of high-quality inclusive education that supports the learning needs of children across both schools and supports children to develop positive attitudes towards difference and inclusion.
All children at Highgate Primary develop a good understanding of Deaf awareness and develop knowledge and skills in using British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate with their deaf peers.
Children at Blanche Nevile are partnered with a parallel class within Highgate Primary. Children from both schools may attend lessons with their partner class where it is considered that it would enhance their education. When inclusion takes place in a Highgate Primary classroom, Blanche Nevile children attending the mainstream class are accompanied by a member of Blanche Nevile staff to ensure that their inclusion is well supported.
